Living Lalique, inspired by Lalique Living Lalique (2015)

Black pepper, bergamot and nutmeg make a brief, spicy introduction before orris butter takes centre stage. Orris butter is the concentrated material from iris root, and it smells powdery, cool and faintly like violet-scented cosmetics. Here tonka bean and vanilla warm it up, giving the iris a velvety, slightly nutty sweetness. Cashmeran, a musky woody material, joins sandalwood and vetiver to keep the drydown smooth and quiet.

About the original

Living Lalique launched in March 2015 as an eau de parfum in 50 and 100 ml, alongside an extrait de parfum in a crystal flacon. The perfumer was Richard Ibanez, and the design drew on the Lalique swallow motif. Now Smell This described it as soft and quiet after the first stage, with a velvety, slightly nutty drydown. The scent is still sold by Lalique as the crystal-flacon extrait, although the original eau de parfum bottling is reported to be no longer listed in the UK and US.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Lalique stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Iris fans who want something cosy rather than austere are the obvious match, since tonka and vanilla round off the root's chill. The overall effect is powdery and gentle. Powder is central to it, so anyone who dislikes powdery iris should bear that in mind.
