Muguet

Muguet, inspired by Guerlain Muguet (1908)

Muguet is a study of a single flower. Green, herbaceous notes come first, like crushed stems and leaves, followed by the lily of the valley itself, fresh and slightly watery. Lilac adds a cool floral tone, while jasmine and rose give the flower what Guerlain calls 'pearly nuances of green and pink'. It stays airy rather than sweet.

About the original

Jacques Guerlain created the first Muguet in 1908. Jean-Paul Guerlain reinterpreted it in 1998, and since 2006 the house has released it every year around 1 May, the French day for giving lily of the valley, in a numbered Bee bottle decorated differently each time. Current editions are by Thierry Wasser. Each year's run is limited and numbered and sold through Guerlain's own boutiques and website, so the house treats it as a recurring spring release rather than a permanent scent.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Guerlain stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lovers of soliflores, scents built around one flower, will recognise it straight away. It feels light and green, so daytime and spring suit it especially, while anyone wanting a rich or musky floral will find it very restrained.

Guerlain's annual Muguet, the lily of the valley edition released each spring. The bottle changes every year, while the scent stays built on green notes, lily of the valley, lilac, jasmine and rose.

Is Guerlain Muguet discontinued?

No. Guerlain releases a new limited, numbered edition of Muguet every spring, around 1 May, so it returns each year in a newly decorated bottle.
