Homme Eau, inspired by Dior Homme Eau for Men (2014)

Citrus does the talking at first: grapefruit with a slightly bitter pith edge, bergamot, and coriander seed, a spice that smells green and faintly lemony rather than hot. Within a short while the iris surfaces. Iris here means the dried root of the plant, which gives a cool, cosmetic powderiness, and in this composition it stays clean and airy. Cedar and amber close it out on a dry, lightly resinous note.

About the original

François Demachy created Dior Homme Eau for Men, announced in January 2014 as a flanker of Dior Homme (2005). It used the classic Dior Homme bottle filled with pale blue juice, and its campaign drew on the image of James Dean. In the United States it first launched as a Macy's exclusive. After the 2020 relaunch of the Dior Homme line it was no longer listed, and reports from that period say it was dropped. The current Dior Homme Eau de Toilette is the 2020 reworked Dior Homme, a separate fragrance.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dior stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

It is the lighter, fresher take on the iris theme of Dior Homme, with citrus doing more of the work. Iris still sets the tone, so a buyer who dislikes powdery notes will not be won over.

Grapefruit and bergamot open it, with coriander adding a herbal, slightly peppery twist that keeps the citrus from turning sweet.

The heart belongs to iris: cool, dry and a little rooty, like clean powder on fresh cotton.

Cedarwood and amber form the base, dry wood first and then a gentle resinous glow.

Is Dior Homme Eau for Men discontinued?

It is no longer listed in Dior's Dior Homme range, and it was reportedly dropped around the 2020 relaunch of the line. Dior has not published a statement we could find.

Is this the same as the current Dior Homme Eau de Toilette?

No. Today's Dior Homme Eau de Toilette is the 2020 rework of Dior Homme. This page is based on Dior Homme Eau for Men, the 2014 citrus and iris flanker.

How does it compare with the original Dior Homme?

Both centre on iris. Eau for Men frames it with grapefruit, bergamot and coriander, so it reads fresher and less dense.

Is Dior Homme Eau coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Dior that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
